A British woman held in Laos on drug trafficking charges will not face the death penalty because she is pregnant, according to a Laos government spokesman. The trial of Samantha Orobator, 20, has been delayed until next week for an "appropriate lawyer" to be appointed. She has been in jail since last August when she was arrested at the airport, allegedly with heroin in her bag. She is now five months pregnant. Reprieve, thehuman rightscharity campaigning on her behalf, challenged Laotian claims that she had been pregnant when arrested.
