HA NOI Laos and Viet Nam are to build a railway linking Ha Tinh Province of Viet Nam to Vientiane.

As designed, the Viet Nam - Laos railway, which would cost US$280 million, will be 519 km long with 119 km on Viet Nams territory. The 1m gauge railway will have 12 stations, seven tunnels and 24 bridges.

Experts from the two countries are completing a technical assessment and economic feasibility study of the project.

The Laos-Viet Nam railway will be part of the trans-Asia and ASEAN railway network. The railway, which has played an important role in the economic development of Laos, will open up direct overland transport and trade links connecting Viet Nam with Laos, Thailand and the rest of S. E. Asia. VNS
