Laos-Vietnam border co-operation lever ties up

Border co-operation between Laos and Vietnam has greatly contributed to beefing up the relationship between the two neighbours, said Lao Deputy Foreign Minister Phongsavath Boupha.

Speaking with local media on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the bilateral ties (September 5), Deputy Foreign Minister Boupha, who is also Head of the Laos-Vietnam Border Committee, highlighted the contributions made by the two countries border committees to the development of bilateral traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation in the principle of equality and respect for each others independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as legitimate benefit of both sides.

The Lao diplomat also highlighted mutual assistance by people in the two countries border provinces, saying that they have helped each other reduce poverty and improve living conditions, thus contributing to boosting bilateral co-operation in the commercial, investment, tourism, educational and cultural fields.

Laos and Vietnam have ten provinces sharing the borderline with a total length of 2,067 kilometres. So far, the two countries have opened six international border gates, Deputy FM Boupha said, adding that the fulfillment of mapping out shared border is of great significance to increase bilateral co-operation in political and socio-economic areas.
