(KPL) President Choummaly Sayasone has signed recently a decree to give amnesty to 823 prisoners including 170 female and 22 foreigners, on the occasion of Laos National Day (December 2).
Under decree, 607 prisoners including 129 female and 11 foreigners has got the imprisonment reduction, 49 of which including 25 female who received life-imprisonment has been reduced to 20 year limited term.
The 216 prisoners including 41 female and 11 foreigners have been released on 2 December.
The 22 foreigners include Thai, Vietnamese, Myanmar, Cambodian and Chinese.
The pardon has been granted to repentant inmates who well observed imprisonment regulations and actively joined in re-education and labour activities.
